Ugljan travel & tourism guide

Ugljan is the closest island of the Zadar archipelago, opposite the town of Zadar, from which is divided by only couple of miles wide channel of Zadar and it is connected with many ferryboat lines. It is also called the green island, covered with dense bush, pine trees, olive-groves, fig-groves, vineyards and other Mediterranean vegetation. It has a surface of 51,85 km2, while the shore line is 74 km long.


Generations are involved with sea, seamanship and fishery, and 2000 years of tradition in olive growing left thousands of olive trees that produce oil of extraordinary quality and aroma. In the NE side of the island there are many fisherman and tourist villages in natural coves, and the most famous are Kukljica, Kali, Preko and Ugljan. The other side of the island is uninhabited and has many coves, islands and rich undersea world that challenges scuba- divers and recreational fishermen. Rocky but docile inside of the island has many paths suitable for long walks and cycling tours ...

The samename town is placed in the NW part, the part that has the most hours of insulation in the entire area thanks to its position.In many angles and numerous coves there are nine idyllic parts that make the town of Ugljan (Ceprljanda,Lucino selo, Batalaza,Susica, Gornje Selo, Muline, Guduce, Fortostina, Varos)Town is an unique combination of Mediterranean nature, rich and multilayer cultural and historical heritage and vivid and modern tourist everyday activities. Placed in a beautiful and idyllic natural surroundings, that gives it its Mediterranean attraction and serenity, turned towards the sea that gives it marvelous and unique history, and it is a real treasury of events and adventures.Inhabitants are mainly occupied with agriculture, fishery and tourism.

Kali, Ugljan Kali Kali is a place of the most famous fishermen on the Adriatic, who have shown their fishing abilities and seamanship on the world’s seas. It is exceptionally particular because of the two little ports that are full of fishing-boats and fishermen who are on the pier, occupied with patching up their fishing nets.The combination of both fishing and touristic contents in Kali gives a special charm to this town. Numerous private apartments that are modernly equipped, restaurants famous for preparing traditional Dalmatian specialties, nearness of Zadar, the island of Pašman that separates Kali with a bridge, Kornati, as if on a palm of your hand, the Krka Falls and other islands around Zadar, will make Your arrival memorable.

Preko is the road and administration center of the island, situated, as the name states, opposite Zadar. Its old center consists of typical Dalmatian architecture and numerous patrician familysummer houses. The best way to feel the Mediterranean atmosphere is by walking along the quay or sipping a favorite drink on one of the terraces with a view of the Zadar Channel.

The traditional hospitality of the inhabitants will soon drag you to the typical island family and very soon you will feel like you were born in here.
