Sea Organ of Zadar

The famous Sea organ of Zadar is placed nearby the new port for cruisers, and it is a part of the Zadar Riviera. The sea organs are specific and recognizable by their interesting cascade shore. The sea organs are actually magnificent marble stares that are about 70m long and they are placed along the gorgeous coast of Zadar. They are split into seven sections, each of them 10m long, and underneath them, tubes of different sizes are placed, each leaning differently, and each of them end in a canal. The sea waves push the air into these tubes, and as it accelerates throughout the tubes, it makes whistling noises as it comes out of the LABIUMI that are placed in hallways underneath the promenade. The sounds come right into the promenade space. As the sea energy is unpredictable due to numerous changes of the high and low tides that themselves differ in strength, direction, length, the everlasting concert of the sea organs is always unique with numerous musical variations, and the most important thing is, the author of all these wonderful melodies is mother nature herself.

This organ is driven by the waves and wind only and it creates the notes randomly but you would be surprised how harmonious they sound. The sea is unpredictable, the wind too, and one would think that these notes wouldn’t make any sense at all, but once you hear the harmony of them, and once you experience just how good they sound, you will know, just as I do, that this is a wonderful unique instrument. The pipes were designed and placed differently, each one of them is calculated and carefully tuned to produce music notes that overall sound great together. It is relaxing, always unique, but ever so synchronized. The Sea organs leave the tourists breathless and once you sit on those beautiful marble stares to rest, and hear the delightful sounds, you won’t be leaving anytime soon.

This is a unique spot where the human ideas are joined with the energy of the sea waves, a place for relaxation, thinking and comfortable conversation while listening to the beautiful sounds of the “Nature Orchestra”. Right after they were built, the Sea organs have become one of the most important spots of Zadar, and one of its trademarks. Not only tourists come here, the local people enjoy this magnificent orchestra anytime they can.The project for the Sea organs was made by the famous Zadar architect Nikola Basic, and many specialists have been involved in the making. What was once just an experimental musical instrument now is one of the most popular monuments of the city of Zadar. The large marble steps themselves are beautiful enough to walk on, and if you add the amazing sounds that come from the sea waves, what you get is a unique experience everyone should enjoy.
