Novigrad

Novigrad is a tourist resort on the northwestern coast of Istria, 15 kilometers southwest of Buje. Situated on a limestone peninsula that makes up the southwest Bujstine on the north side entrance of the large bay Mirna. Until the 18th century town was on the island, and then connected to the mainland. In written documents first mentioned 599.g.

Town has preserved its medieval streets, the old town walls and towers. In the old town there are a few gothic houses, the Municipal Loggia and residential palaces. Although the parish church bearing three names – St. Mary, St. Maximilian and St. Pelages had been restored in the baroque style, it has retained its Romanesque, as well as Early Christian fragments. Its Riviera stretches of Dajla in the north to the mouth of the river Mirna in the south. The coast is indented with rocky and sandy beaches. Preserved nature and the sea (the cleanest in this part of the Mediterranean) with rich cultural, historical and entertainment the main advantages of the tourism here.

The tourist offer includes accommodation in hotels, apartments, bed and breakfasts and camping. From sports and recreational activities can be distinguished tennis, basketball, handball, volleyball, football and cycling, and the usual water sports. Dance terraces, casinos, bars and disco clubs guarantee good fun until the early morning hours. And when the hungry there are plenty of restaurants, taverns, pizzerias and a grill-terrace.

Traditional dishes of the region that are definitely worth to try various fish and other seafood specialties (fish soup, crab salad, risotto with seafood, gold fish on the grill, baked grouper), then goat cheese, smoked ham, lasagna with truffles and the kid under the baking lid. With good food and good drops go: wow Istrian wine - Malvasia, cabernet, pinot, muscat and merlot. Istrian brandy is an excellent aperitif.

The most famous events are the Music nights in August, the folk feast of St. Pelagius (patron) in late August (August 28th) and numerous shows and colonies.
