National Park Risnjak

National Park Risnjak is situated in Gorski Kotar, wooded area of western Croatian land area of 63.5 km ² occupies the central part of the massif Snjeznik and the upper river Kupa to the source part. Aerial distance from the tip of the Great Risnjak (1528m) to the sea is 15 km from the spring (321M) 8 km. Thus, only 23 km air distance rule pronounced climatic differences. It is what it says, a mountain that towers over all the areas between land and sea, which are given to the National Park.




District National Park Risnjak is a part of the Dinaric system, which extends from the eastern Alps to the Sarsko-Pindos Mountains, part of the area that connects the Alps and Dinarides. Through massive Snjeznik and went by the great migrations of Alpine, arctic and boreal species in the southeast, but in these mountains preserve vegetation significantly different from the surrounding areas. The territory of National Park is divided into two zones - the zone of strict protection and the zone of moderate protection. In total, more than 4600 ha makes for a completely protected area, exempt from any kind of interference and left exclusively to nature's resources. The inner park zone features a great number of magnificent natural developments of remarkable beauty due to which this area is ranked in the highest degree of nature preservation. This National Park is a very good example of elevation diversity in areas of morphology, geology, hydrology and climate, flora and fauna.


The greatest attraction is certainly the educational trail "Leska", one of the first such developments in Croatia. Situated at 700 m above sea-level, 4200 meters long, it requires moderate physical training to climb. The trail starts at the park administration building in Crni lug and it takes cca 1 hour 45 minutes to complete.

Mountaineers and visitors all eager to conquer the peaks and enjoy the beautiful sights we suggest to climb the Great Risnjak (1528m) and evenings (1506m). At your disposal are several hiking trails, and you decide where you go.

Anywhere you go dress appropriately, bring water to drink and some food and most importantly keep to marked paths.

You can ride mountain bike, you will certainly enjoy the silence and the scent of the forest. On the map of National Park you can see marked bicycle lanes, the shortest 4.2 km up to 40 km long route.

Tickets can be purchased in the boarding house in the Black Lug / White guide, info points and White Roadmap reasons as in the mountain chalet in Risnjak.

Fishing season starts 15th May, all fishermans are wellcome to the rich fishing waters of the river Kupa.
