Murter island, travel & tourism guide
The island of Murter is part of the North Dalmatian group of islands, which contains almost 40% of all Croatian islands and is the most dense archipelago in both the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. It was famous from the past, when it´s first inhibitants were Ilyrian. From this time are still preserved some remains and historical monuments. Tourism is the main occupation on the island and it is based on agriculture, fishing and mostly on groving olives.

Murter
The same name town is located next to the seashore and lies at the bottom of Raduca, at the edge of a fertile and lush field. Found in the centre of city is the medieval church of St. Mihovil which was renovated in the year 1770. Just west of the town is the Slanica inlet where guests will find beautiful beaches and camp ground.
Betina
The town of Betina was founded in the 16th century by the inhabitants of Vrana who were retreating from the Turks at the time. Nearby, on Mt. Gradina, lay the archaeological remains of an old Illyrian-Roman city called Collentum. In the town of Betina there is a small shipyard where small sport boats are built and it is home to some ship-builders which are known throughout the Adriatic for their expertise. Betina is the perfect place to take a quiet and pleasant holiday, especially for those who love to sail. It is a known fishing town so all of its restaurants and taverns always offer fresh seafood daily.
Jezera
1000 inhabitants lives in Jezera. Place is situated in the southeast of the island. Jezera (Lakes) got its name due to the many large puddles which would form in the island's valleys after heavy rains. On the nearby hill of Mortar lays an old tower which was used for signalling to seamen by using fire. Today, the town of Jezera is known to be one of the largest fish trading centres in Croatia. City has received numerous awards from Croatian National Tourist Board, European associations, journals, and the last of them are for beautifully waterfront awards granted in September 2011. year. and "Blue Flower" in October of 2011 too.
Tisno
Tisno is a village on the eastern coast of the island, partly on the mainland (Tisnjanska Peninsula), the narrowest part of the Channel in the Straits of Murter, over a bridge. This picturesque village with typical coastal scenery, beautiful beaches and landscaped coastline is an ideal place to spend the best vacation. Recreational amenities in Tisno, as well as the whole island is connected with navigation (National park Kornati, Telascica), sailing, diving school and other similar adrenaline sport. During the summer season is traditionally Tisnjanska summer. Bascule bridge (in central Tisno) is open during the season every day from 9-9.30 hi 17-17.30 h.
How to get
By personal vehicle from any part of Europe over the bridge, by plane to the nearest Zadar airport or Split airport, by boat since Murter is connected with Zadar and Split that have sea connections with Italy, by train from the train station in Sibenik, by bus from the bus stations in Zagreb, Sibenik and Zadar.
