MotovunThe picturesque medieval town of Motovun lies in the northwest part of central Istria high up on a hill (177m) overlooking the valley of the river Mirna.The city offers a number of wineries, restaurants, hotel, apartments and rooms. It is one of the most well preserved medieval towns in all of Istria. The centre of town was built as a fortress surrounded by thick stone walls which protected the city from intruders. eventsMotovun is well known for it's popular Motovun Film Festival. The festival is established in 1999 and since then it become one of the most popular places to be for five days in late July every year.For the festival's five days, some 60 films are shown at five different locations with 1500 available seats. In addition to the film series, you can visit exhibitions, concerts and conferences or just party with the other 30,000 or so people that stream in and out of the village. Festival of balloons, wine and truffles , held at the beginning of November. The traditional "Motovun samanj", is an annual local feast day which celebrates the consecration of the parish church of Saint Stephan. It is held on August 2nd.
