History and herritage
It is a town with a long and rich history with a long tradition in tourism. It was named after the laurel (Laurus nobilis), which grows abundantly in the evergreen groves in the village and its surroundings.
At the town square with its medieval fortress town and the church with a Romanesque bell tower, there are more baroque houses.
Church St. Jurja was built in the 12th century, with Gothic arches of the 15th century, the shrine decorated with frescoes by local artists. In the 18th century Baroque extending side chapels, while the interior is decorated carved altar and font, and kept a treasure trove of church vessels.
By the sea, overlooking the harbor is a Romanesque church of st. Trinity, rebuilt in Gothic style, which is mostly seen in the details of windows and doors.
On the approach to St George's Square is a massive tower and the medieval city walls have been preserved east gate 'Stubica', which led to the port.
Between town and Ika along the promenade are the most beautiful and most famous villas. They were built at the turn of the 19th i 20. century as a residential villa or villas, surrounded by lush parks with exotic vegetable plantations.

June is reserved for a cresanj days of Lovran. During their lifetime in the cafes and restaurants offer cakes from cherries or dishes made with cherries. Marunada (Festival of the chestnuts) begins in mid-October in Lovran and next weekend in the other villages beyond, calamari and Dobreč. The Marunada with baked roosted offers Medica (domestic brandy made from honey), and new wine. In cafés and baker shops are prepared cakes, pastries and cakes, in restaurants you may taste original home made dishes based on chestnuts.
