Lovran travel & tourism guide

Lovran is located on the southeast coast of Istria, the Kvarner Bay, just a few miles south of Opatija. Similar to Opatija, it's tourism has developed and grown. Today it is mostly known for being a health and rehabilitation centre. Due to its climate and healing qualities, Lovran's tourism, next to Opatija, is also active during the winter months. This little Istrian town is characterised by its blue sea and the green slopes of Mt. Ucka. Visitors can enjoy their holiday swimming and sunbathing or mountain climbing and hiking or both

History and herritage

It is a town with a long and rich history with a long tradition in tourism. It was named after the laurel (Laurus nobilis), which grows abundantly in the evergreen groves in the village and its surroundings.

At the town square with its medieval fortress town and the church with a Romanesque bell tower, there are more baroque houses.

Church St. Jurja was built in the 12th century, with Gothic arches of the 15th century, the shrine decorated with frescoes by local artists. In the 18th century Baroque extending side chapels, while the interior is decorated carved altar and font, and kept a treasure trove of church vessels.

By the sea, overlooking the harbor is a Romanesque church of st. Trinity, rebuilt in Gothic style, which is mostly seen in the details of windows and doors.

Events
