National Park Krka

Once you have seen the Dalmatian towns and islands, you have to visit the National Park Krka.
With its seven travertine waterfalls and a total drop of 242 meters, the river is a natural phenomenon. National Park belongs to the Southern European, Mediterranean region, and contains 860 species and subspecies of plants, including several endemic species of the Adriatic.



It is located on the Sibenik - Knin County and encompasses an area of 109km2 along the river Krka.

The river runs through the park and contains 18 species of fish including 10 endemic species. This powerful river carved the canyons which you will surely admire.

Krka became a national park in 1985. Although it has been protected by the state since 1948 and is the seventh national park in Croatia.



This National Park has two cultural and historic monuments, the Franciscan monastery on the island of Visovac and monestery of Krka. In National Park is situated Skradin town wich is protected for historical interest.
Flora, plateau which is outlined flat, suddenly a hundred, two hundred meter precipice, and down the river calm lake.
Phenomenal scenery, the view of the falls and bouquets are most notably in Skradin buk.

Last vortex of a Skradin buk is where the waterfalls meet the sea. Downstream from Skradin is Prokljansko Lake, at the exit of the last canyon that separates the right bayou, which is actually a bay or inlet where the site Zaton is named.

Visovac

Is situated between the waterfalls, surrounded by rolling hills and plateau is called Miljevac Rupskim field. The monks have turned it into an island of vegetation, with flowers, fruit and vegetables although rocks are in abundance.The park is intended primarily for scientific, cultural, educational, recreational, and tourism activities.On the island of Visovac between the aforementioned Skradin buk and the other famous waterfall (Roski) is the Franciscan monastery which houses a valuable library containing a collection of books and artworks, including 620 Turkish documents, showing the first hermits that settled in the 14th century who built a church and a monastery.

The sacred complex of the islands, make up the church, bell tower, the cloisters and the monastery. You can visit by boat from June until October. The Krka monastery and a medieval fortress were built in the 14th century.

This park is a haven for twitchers, and one of the best areas in Europe for bird watching.


Skradin Buk

Is the longest and most visited waterfall on the Krka River and is very beautiful, best viewed from the lookout point, where you can see also the travertine barriers, islands, lakes, and the most unusual landscape of the National Park.
Visitors can safely walk on the dedicated paths and wooden bridges. You can swim, visit the old mill, the ethnographic collection, and visit the souvenir shop. Try out the restaurants for some of our famous Croatian cuisine !

Roski Waterfall

Is another waterfall, located about 36 km downstream from its source. It has a series of small cascades, followed by numerous branches and islands. The main waterfall is at the end of the flow with a height of 15 meters crushes into Visovacko Lake. Over travertine waterfalls crosses the road that connects the coast in Roman times. Along the left bank of the falls is a series of attractive mills of which some are still in use.The complex of mills at Rosko is of particular importance, being valuable ethnographic monuments of Croatia and can be seen from April to October, and Roski can be visited all year round.

In the surrounding areas Skradin, Knin or Primosten you can find accommodation in apartments, rooms or houses. Other areas are Kistanje, Krk, Puljane, Vodice and Mratovo, where you can also find accommodation and restaurants on a lesser scale. Hotels in the National Park area offer a full compliment of luxuries.Hunting and fishing can be found nearby.
