Biograd na Moru (´by the sea´) , city and port in northern Dalmatia, is situated 28 km south of Zadar. It is located on a small peninsula and on the mainland. Town is the centre of the riviera consisting of Petar na Moru (Peter on the Sea), Turanj, Sv. Filip i Jakov (Sts. Philip and James), Biograd, Pakostane and Drage. The Historic town is set amongst crystal clear waters overlooking the ´olive isle´ of Pasman, and the beautiful Kornati archipelago. From the majestic Velebit Mountains to the graceful Krka waterfalls. The economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism.
Thanks to its position on the most indented part of the Adriatic coast, this region offers excellent possibilities for nautical tourism and sailing as few places on the Mediterranean do. It is also known for beautiful beaches and picturesque bays.Three national parks are located in its proximity: National Park Paklenica, National Park Kornati, National Park Krka, and there are also nature parks such as Telascica and Lake Vrana.

With the total sea area (maritime zone) of 91 912 m2 and the land area of 39 688 m2, today's marina Kornati is certainly one of the largest nautical harbors in the Zadar County and the only real driver of nautical tourism development at Biograd Riviera which, thanks to the boating potentials of the city itself, enabled town not only to become the yachting city, but also the center for development of nautical tourism.
History and Sights
It is first mentioned in the tenth century. Under the Croatian kings, Biograd is a parish and later a royal city.Its environment is rich in antiquities from the Croatian past:documents mention churches, monasteries and castles. In the City Museum you can see many artefacts and evidence of the turbulent past. There are interesting archaeological collections from the prehistoric, ancient and early Croatian findings, the ship cargo from the 16 century, and many other exhibits. From Old Croatian period there are two churches, one of which was a large, three-boat basilica. Among other sights you can see the remains of the monastery of St. John, then the church St.Anastasia with baroque altars from 1761 and two small churches from 1850 - St.Roko and St.Antonio. With all the aforementioned, in the wider area of town, there are remains of an ancient aqueduct, as well as other prehistoric sites.
How to get
Town is very well connected with the north and south of Croatia by highway Zagreb - Split, exit Benkovac. If you arrive by plane, international Zadar Airport is only about twenty miles, and all regular bus lines from Zagreb to Dalmatia If you are coming from Italy for disposal ferry Ancona - Zadar.
