The main activity of the local people is tourism and during seasons here stays the biggest number of guests of all the places in, so called, Makarska riviera. Actual President of Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipovic, is from here...

Baska Voda Through the history Baska Voda gave 12 Romancatholic priests...because of that, during communist's domination they called it „Little Vatican“.As a proof to the strong believing tradition also goes a fact that the first public building at this area was church of St. Lovro (made in late Baroque style, 1750.) and latter is built a church of St. Nikola in which is stored a precious collection of ethnographic and sacral items.Baška Voda is also proud on two very appreciable museum's collections which are stored in the old city center; archaeological corpus in the ownership rights of District and the other is very rich and quality collection of seashells belonged to Jurišić Akčić family.Northerly from settlement Bast (3 km from Baška Voda), there's archaeological emplacement which gives evidence about life at this area in time of 4000 years b.c.The main motive for colonisation rate was wellspring...in Bronze Age, in time of cattle-breeder's removals at the Mediterranean sea, there's lot of conflicts between different tribes...so, at the Gradina hill, in the nucleus of today's city, was formed fortification with walls made of boisterous rocks for the needs of defence the wellspring. In the Antique period, there was sattlement Aronia...historiographers have „Tabula Peutingeria“ – a map which shows that settlement with the same name was exactly at the point of today's Baška Voda.Since the end of IV 'till VII century was many strikes of barbarian commons and inhabitants at the Gradina hill built another fort for hiding from aggressions and monitoring the watercourse of island Brac.At last, in VII century, Slav commons enter Aronia and it's no longer existed.

Baska Voda During next thousand years, there's no traces of urban life at this part of coast, only shepherds from Bast brings the cattle on wellspring...first buildings in that time was, probably, their shelters or slippages. Finally, in the end of XVII century, when pirate's menace goes away and Ottoman Empire was over in exile, people returns to the coast and slowly raises a new village...name Baska Voda was mentioned for the very first time in the year of 1688.First school was opened in 1845; post office in 1900; harbour in 1912; and than Baska Voda became important port of that area and intensively trafficking between islands starts.Twenty years later, Sikavica brothers were opened first hotel „Slavia“ and in the year of 1936. at the world fair in London, that hotel received recognition and won the gold medal for conveniences, cuisine and good wines.Association „for city's decoration and incrustation“ was established in 1933. and influence of that is still alive 'cause Baska Voda today is the most popular touristic place in middle Dalmatia and (as one of the best arranged touristic places at Adriatic sea, generally) last few years consecutively receive „Blue flower“ with gold appellation, the most valued touristic recognition in Croatia.

Baska Voda In Baska Voda always waiting for you exceptional mediterranean clime with classical attributes; mild winters and hot summers but there's one preference...the wind Maestral...during summer's months it's brings refreshing and so much wanted cool air. In the nighttime Maestral is spelled with Burin (smooth north wind)...it's chills overheated land.Touristic offer here is so large and detailed...you can find a Russian restaurant, also. The major cultural event is „Baskovosko lito – Baska Voda summer festival“ and whole season is filled with fun of every kinds....it's possible to spend whole day laying on the beach or decide to enjoy in one of very recommended trips at the canyon of river Cetina, waterfalls of river Krka, Blue and Red lake or waterfall Velika Gubavica in Zadvarje....if you come in May, perhaps you can climb at the top of Biokovo mountain, enjoy in snow, than climb down again and go to swim in already warm sea...'cause...you know...in the „heart of the world“ everything's possible.
